Sasha Terway / Naive Nouveau / 2.14-3.8.2025

Naive Nouveau is an aesthetic characterized as simpleminded and cute but draws on the sense that the artist knows more than they are choosing to tell with subject matter that is childlike in presentation but sophisticated in execution. Ink is a medium indicative of how I romanticize my subconscious, in its fluidity, dreamlike washes, and the care it takes to control. This series delves into the psyche of dreams, and romanticizing despair.

Sasha Terway is a multidisciplinary artist living and creating in Mohkinstis (Calgary). She indulges in her creative work to facilitate narrating her dreams that take lived experiences and emotions and dictates them through animism and surrealism. In replacing our world with an animal realm of pastels and cute imagery, we may find more connection with each other inside the comfort of surreal escapism and fantasy realism.
