Charlie Tong / Eight Corners Under One Roof

10.17.2025 - 11.8.2025

Eight Corners Under One Roof is an art project inspired by the symbolic form of the Miyazaki Tower in Japan, a monument built to embody the wartime ideology of Hakkō Ichiu (“eight corners of the world under one roof”). The work gathers stones from eight distinct locations, each carrying the memory, geography, and cultural identity of its origin. Arranged beneath a unifying structure, they recreate the ideological tension between imposed unity and genuine coexistence. By recontextualizing the Hakkō Ichiu ideal, the piece interrogates the fine line between cultural integration and imperial ambition, inviting viewers to consider whether unity is an act of harmony or a mechanism of power.

Noah Milo / The City is a Problem

10.17.2025 - 11.8.2025

The City is a Problem is a painting and drawing series recounting the wickedly complex stories of the victims of colonialism, poverty and generational trauma in urban settlement cities. Oftentimes we rush by, ignore or make a spectacle of those who live rough lives. The aim of this series is to humanize those subjects and their experiences while creating a space for the viewer to consider and empathize.

My practice recounts a personal journey of healing and becoming while living rough. At the age of 17 I left home to pursue a creative career, getting by living in artist studios, galleries and malls. There I encountered people of every walk of life and heard their stories, from high society to street. My work is rooted in graffiti, folk art and abstract expressionism while staying true to my training in architecture.
